Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is closing in on a deal to sign Dutch ace Ryan Babel.
As hinted at by the editor earlier today, major news was due to be broke by the local (written) media either this afternoon or tomorrow, and as expected, local hack Chris Bascombe has put out such a report.
Bascombe writes that Liverpool have already opened negotiations with Ajax for the £10million-rated starlet who can play as an attacker or out wide on either wing.
KOPTALK sources insist that the boss has made "substantial progress" in the transfer market within the last 48 hours which subsequently means he can now pick and choose exactly who he wants at Anfield rather than having to fall back on weaker options.
Our source told us by email today: "Expect big news in the [Liverpool] Echo on Merseyside either today or tomorrow as they are waiting to run something about Ryan Babel.
"Only a handful of people are aware of the talks with Ajax so it is important that you do not confirm our interest until it is leaked either locally or nationally overnight Monday.
"There has been contact about Benayoun but he is not at the top of the list. He could still be signed along with possibly Deco, Mancini or Quaresma, if West Ham lower their demands, even if Babel comes in.
"Rafa has been talking a lot about Benayoun and there have been a lot of reports leaked to the nationals about Quaresma especially. This has kept everyone away from Babel.
"If Ajax agree to talk [for Babel], Liverpool will get this out straight away. It´s just a matter of time before something breaks."
