Having been hotly tipped to become the fifth arrival at Gallowgate of the close season, Marseille defender Habib Beye has spoken publicly of his wish to remain in France next season:
"I am here (at Marseille), I have a year remaining on my contract and I am going to honour this contract.
"I am happy to be here, like I say every year. From the moment where I am under contract with OM, I am going to do a season with OM.
"OM have made some ambitious acquisitions - OM must be ambitious and we must have a good season."
"If I am asked to leave, we will see.

Maybe you will not believe me if I say I’ve really been enjoying pre-season training, but I’ve got my reasons. For one thing, it is just great to feel like I am going into a campaign fit and well – touch wood – after the injury problems of the past couple of years.
Secondly, it has been an eye-opener to see the innovations from Sam Allardyce. We’ve been on a training camp in Austria and from bike rides at 7.30am to Pilates in the afternoon, we’ve been shown a different approach to the traditional slog of preseason.
That is just one small but significant part of the multitude of changes happening at Newcastle that give me even more hope that this season can be uplifting for me and the fans after frustrating times. We’ve got a new manager, new staff, new players and a takeover in the boardroom. Any one of those elements would cause excitement at a club and we’ve had a transformation from top to bottom. Crucially, everyone who has arrived appears to have big ambitions.
I am sure the manager sees this job as a fantastic opportunity for him to be challenging for trophies. It is not so long ago that this club were up there in the top four and, while no one is making any predictions, at the very least we should be up there going for Europe. Everyone knows that the fans and the stadium give Newcastle the foundations to become one of the biggest clubs in the country.
I believe that these can be good times to be at Newcastle, which is why I am more than happy to be here. There has been plenty of speculation about my future, but I can assure the Newcastle fans that I didn’t start any of it.
There was a lot of talk from other quarters and my attitude to rumour has always been to ignore it. I don’t really feel that I should be responding all the time to stories in the newspapers and I certainly didn’t want to be forced into making comments. I prefer to let my actions speak for themselves and I just wish there had been more opportunities to show the Newcastle fans what I am capable of. I am sure that is to come this season.
Mark Viduka has been away with the Australia squad, so I have not had a chance to see how we might link up, but as an opponent I have always regarded him as one of those players you want on your side. There are days when he looks unplayable, with that combination of physical presence and great skill.
With Mark, Obafemi Martins and Shola Ameobi, I am sure that the manager is excited about his attacking options and he has been working hard to strengthen the rest of the team.
I met the manager when I was with the England camp at the end of last season, so we’ve been in a good dialogue all summer. He has brought in his backroom staff from Bolton Wanderers and shown that he intends to do things thoroughly. We’ve not seen him at work on a match-day, but you can see how meticulous he is.
Newcastle have not had a good time with injuries over the years and while some people have bemoaned bad luck or even a curse, the manager has set about rectifying it the right way – with hard work and medical science. If you need a chiropractor, he will make sure one is on hand. If a foot is giving you problems, he’ll make sure you are put on to a top-notch podiatrist.
I do think that there are distinctions between how English managers – not all, but many – and their foreign counterparts approach the game. I saw that when Gérard Houllier came to Liverpool and transformed the way in which we went about our daily work off the field.
From what I have seen, Sam Allardyce is a great combination of British and foreign strengths, a man rooted in the English game who understands its passions but is also open to new ideas. I can’t say that he has been participating in the early morning bike rides, the swimming or the Pilates too much, but then he would argue that delegation and knowing when to step back are important parts of management.
Hopefully all that toil has put us in good shape when the season kicks off because there have been too many years of underachievement on Tyneside. This club have so much potential. I want to help to realise it.

Newcastle try Duscher
Aldo Duscher, who achieved global awareness of the word "metatarsal" when he broke a bone in David Beckham's foot before the 2002 World Cup, started a trial at Newcastle United yesterday.
Now 28 and a free agent after reaching the end of his contract at Deportivo La Coruña, the Argentinian defensive midfielder conforms to the pattern of Bosman signings Sam Allardyce made at Bolton Wanderers.
As Duscher arrives, a key figure at Newcastle for the past few years looks set to depart. It is believed that Kenneth Shepherd, son of the chairman, Freddy, and involved with transfers, has been told by Mike Ashley's new regime that he no longer has a role.

Argie Aldo in Toon trial
NEWCASTLE United are considering signing the man known to fans in Spain as “The Butcher.”
Sam Allardyce has already been linked with adding one Argentina international to his books this week in the form of Manchester United star Gabriel Heinze but has now lined up defensive midfielder Aldo Duscher as his next summer signing.
The 28-year-old is infamous in football after smashing David Beckham’s foot in the build-up to the 2002 World Cup after an X-rated two-footed tackle smashed the England star’s metatarsal when Manchester United played Deportivo la Coruna.
The Argie hardman – who isn’t with his country at the Copa America – arrived on Tyneside today for a trial.
With the player’s contract at Depor now expired it means United will be free to capture the player on a Bosman free transfer if Allardyce is happy with his efforts during his stay on Tyneside.
And if Big Sam does pull off the signing of Duscher it will be considered a major coup for the Magpies.
During his days as a contracted player he attracted intense interest from both Manchester United and Arsenal as they looked to to fill the massive voids in their midfields left by the departures of Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira respectively.
Duscher started his career in his native Argentina with Newells Old Boys before making the move to Portugal to star for Sporting Lisbon. But after just two seasons with the Portuguese giants, he crossed the border to sign for Depor for £9m and he was a big hit in La Liga.
Now, with the player keen to taste life in the Premiership after seven seasons in La Liga with Depor, he is set to link up with his former club mate Albert Luque.
It was revealed today that Luque has sacrificed his honeymoon to revive his United career.
It is no secret Allardyce has the respect of most players on the continent and, after working with Spanish international stars Fernando Hierro and Ivan Campo at Bolton Wanderers, the news of him coming to St James’ Park in May was music to the ears of £9.5m La Liga star Luque.
The 29-year-old – who married Marta Luna in Majorca last weekend – rushed back from the Balearic Islands and checked into the club’s Benton base at the start of the week to resume pre-season training after missing the trip to Austria to get hitched.
After crunch talks with Allardyce, the player who was not even on speaking terms by the end of Glenn Roeder’s reign in charge at United after being frozen out is ready to rebuild his shattered career.
Allardyce knows the Spaniard’s stock has dipped badly in his two years on Tyneside, but also knows exactly what the former Deportivo la Coruna and Real Mallorca striker did in La Liga when he netted more than a half-century of goals.
Now Big Sam has handed Luque an olive branch and is ready to consider him as another attacking option along with Michael Owen, Oba Martins, Mark Viduka, Shola Ameobi and teenager Andy Carroll.
Allardyce told the Chronicle: “It would have been nice to have had Albert in Austria as he would have benefited from that but his attitude has been exceptionally good.
“I had a little talk with him before we went off to Austria as he flew over to see me.
“He got married at the weekend but has not had a honeymoon.
“He has been in at the training ground on his own for the last few days and it shows he is willing to come back into the fold.”
Luque was signed during the Graeme Souness era at St James’ Park after playing against United for Depor in the Intertoto Cup.
After going down hurt early in his Toon career in his only his second game for the club against Fulham, the player then found it difficult to adjust to life on Tyneside and suffered a consequent loss of confidence.
He also had problems with the English language, relying heavily on team-mate Nobby Solano to act as a translator.
When Souness was sacked by United, Roeder then dropped Luque in his first game in charge against Portsmouth, the player was sent home after not even making the bench.
His goal in the 4-1 win over Sunderland was the only bright spot in his first season.
Luque wanted a fresh start last term and it looked good after he netted in the first game of the season against Lillestrom.
However, he soon tumbled down the pecking again, even a winning goal in Palermo in the UEFA Cup not enough to convince Roeder he had more to offer.
Allardyce added: “Hopefully we can get more out of him than in the past. Having spoken to Albert, he has not wanted anything else than to be a success here.
“While he has had criticism about the size of his fee and some performances have been disappointing, he does not feel he has ever been able to grasp his chance because of his serious injury and time it has taken him to settle in.
“He has been fighting against that but if we can get more out of him we will have another very valuable player on our hands to play for Newcastle United.”

Martins seeks Toon talks
Obafemi Martins is braced for showdown talks with Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce, with the powerful Nigerian seeking assurances on his future following the arrival of Mark Viduka.
Newcastle had a dearth of attacking options last season following serious injuries to Michael Owen and Shola Ameobi but the pair are now fit, and when coupled with the signing of Viduka, Martins could find himself scrapping for a starting spot.
Martins showed in his debut campaign in England last term that he has all the attributes to be one of the division's finest, with the pacey front-man having exploded into life in the second half of the year, after what was a slow start.
Such good form prompted talk of a £13million swith to Arsenal, when it became public knowledge that he had insisted on a release clause, upon his arrival from Internazionale.
Allardyce must now reassure Martins of the role he is to play at St James' Park next season, after the player told the Daily Mirror: "I have a meeting with the manager when I get back to training.
"We will see what happens then."
While Martins' future remains subject to conjecture, one man delighted to be wearing black and white is Viduka, and the big Australian cannot wait to work in tandem with Owen, who has this week pledged to stay at Newcastle
"I believe that these can be good times to be at Newcastle which is why I am more than happy to be here," he told The Daily Telegraph.
"The fact he (Owen) is going to stay here at Newcastle has got to be brilliant for the fans and the team.
"He's obviously a very different player to me, but I would like to think that if selected we would be able to complement each other very nicely and create a successful partnership."
