Newspaper reports in the UK today claim that Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez will walk out on the club before the start of the new season unless the new American owners deliver their promises of support.
There is also a growing feeling here in Spain today that Rafa will be on his way to Real Madrid the minute anything goes wrong under the new owners at Anfield, with the boss now having lost that special 'working relationship' with previous owner David Moores.
Despite the ongoing speculation back in the UK and the continual articles that are hashed together to worry Liverpool fans, there are signs of progress in the transfer market with Reds chief executive Rick Parry due to hold several key meetings this week, starting on Monday with Rafa himself.
We believe it will be a crucial week. Admittedly things could go either way but as things currently stand, there's more positives been discussed at Anfield than negatives.
By this time next Sunday we'll either be much, much happier or we'll be ready to take the streets in anger.
The La Liga season is also now drawing to an end so the newspaper speculation should increase in the run-up to next weekend.
It's easy for the newspapers to claim that Rafa will quit but with various big guns signing new contracts at the club, that doesn't look likely just now. However, it is important that Rafa's representatives send out the right signal to those upstairs.
