Pagliuca wants Inter offer

Veteran goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca has reiterated his desire to finish his career with former club Inter.

The ex-Azzurri custodian broke the Serie A appearance record for a goalkeeper at Ascoli last term, but is now searching for a new top-flight club after the Piceni’s relegation to the Cadetti.

“I would certainly return to Inter,” the Bologna native told Tuttosport. “I’m a 40-year-old and my years at Inter make up a very big part of my career.”

Pagliuca played for the Nerazzurri between 1994 and 1999 after signing from Sampdoria for £7m – at the time a world record fee.

“I had such an amazing time there, I would jump at the chance to return,” continued the ‘keeper.

“I know the people there really well. I admire President Massimo Moratti and the fans have always given me a warm welcome when I played for other clubs at the San Siro.”

The presence of Roberto Mancini on the Beneamata bench makes a deal seem all the more attractive to ex-teammate Pagliuca, who won the Scudetto with Mancio at Sampdoria.

“I am enthusiastic, but there hasn’t been any official contact with Inter yet,” Pagliuca admitted.

“Right now all I have is a burning desire to spend the last years of my career there and to win something with my friend Mancini.”

While Julio Cesar is committed to the club, Francesco Toldo’s future is less clear and the third ‘keeper spot could be vacant if Uruguayan reserve Fabian Carini chooses to take a season loan elsewhere.

L'Inter sembra aver cominciato la prospettiva di dover rinunciare al difensore della Roma Christian Chivu, che il club giallorosso è intenzionato a cedere al Barcellona. Al posto di Chivu i neroazzurri starebbero valutando l'acquisto di Andrea Barzagli, ventiseienne difensore centrale del Palermo e della Nazionale. Barzagli, cercato da Juventus e Fiorentina, sarebbe stato consigliato alla dirigenza neroazzurra da Marco Materazzi, che lo conosce molto bene per averci giocato in Nazionale.

The first odds on the 2007-08 Scudetto race are available – and the bookmakers predict Inter will face a stiff test to retain their title.

Internet betting site bwin.com has Inter as favourites to retain the title at 5/4, but city rivals Milan are close behind at 3/2.

Juventus’ activity in the transfer market seems to have impressed the bookies, who have the Bianconeri at 4/1 ahead of Roma at 6/1.

Interestingly, Torino find themselves as rank outsiders at 250/1.

ROME - On the sidelines of today's presentation of Inter Club Parlamento, named after Giacinto Facchetti, Inter president Massimo Moratti said that the transfer of Roma's Romanian defender Cristian Chivu is not such an urgent matter for the Nerazzurri.

"Is today the day for Chivu? They have been saying for two weeks that it's the day for Chivu, but I won't be meeting Rosella Sensi today," Moratti said. "Talks are still open and Inter are ready to make their best offer. If it goes well we will be happy; if not, we're fine as we are. But Roma have to want to sell him first. No one is going to snatch him away.

"There are various clubs interested in the player, the one who makes the best offer will bring him home. We can all want things, but there are always economic limits. I will speak to Dr Sensi on the phone, and then we will see, but there's still a month and a half of the transfer market to go, and the Chivu matter is not tremendously urgent for us."

Moratti also spoke about the declarations made by Hernan Crespo from the Copa America in Venezuela. "Crespo's declarations weren't interpreted well, but the Argentine may be right when he says there are too many of us in attack," he said. "However, our buying and selling hasn't finished yet. I have to safeguard the quality of the players who have achieved important victories, so for the moment I'm keeping what I already have. We will see in the future."

The Inter president underlined that "Tevez is no longer a target, we are fine as we are in attack", and that the discord with Adriano "is superable because the Brazilian player has enormous potential".
