Former Germany international Lars Ricken announced on Thursday he will retire next month to take up an administration role with Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.
Midfielder Ricken, 31, made 16 appearances for Germany between 1997-2002 and has played more than 300 league games for Dortmund over the last 14 years.
But having struggled to win a place in coach Thomas Doll's first team this season, Ricken will take up a role with Dortmund's marketing department as the German league programme's winter break starts on December 15.
"I am very happy my professional future is still with Dortmund now my career is over," said Ricken.
Ricken has been at Dortmund since 1993, winning the 1997 Champions League with the Bundesliga side and three German championships in 1995, 1996 and 2002.
