Roundup-Former Germany midfielder Ramelow retires
BERLIN, March 13 (Reuters) - Soccer news in brief from around the world:
* Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Carsten Ramelow, who won 46 caps for Germany, has announced his immediate retirement after failing to get a game since scoring in a 3-0 victory over hometown club Hertha Berlin in December.
“I’ve got the feeling I’m not going to get in any more and I don’t want to sit around,” the 33-year-old told Kicker newspaper. “It is better to let younger guys get in the team.”
Ramelow scored 22 goals in 333 Bundesliga matches for Bayer. He also played for Germany when they lost to Brazil in the 2002 World Cup final.
* Italy midfielder Gennaro Gattuso said he was in favour of a move to bring Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko back to European champions AC Milan.
“If Milan want to take back Shevchenko he would be welcome,” Gattuso told reporters.
“He hasn’t managed to play at his (best) level in England. If he came back he would have great desire and it could be positive for the whole (club) environment”.
* Real Mallorca have sold Argentine midfielder Guillermo Pereyra, 28, to Lokomotiv Moscow, the Primera Liga club said on their Web site (www.rcdmallorca.es). (Editing by Tony Jimenez)
