Miccoli out for a month?
Friday 5 October, 2007
Fabrizio Miccoli is out of Sunday’s match with Reggina and there are fears the Palermo star could be out for a month.
The ‘pocket striker’ picked up an injury during the warm-up for Thursday’s ill-fated UEFA Cup tie with Mlada Boleslav.
A few more days will be needed before tests can give a clear picture of the injury, but there are concerns the right calf strain could keep him sidelined for up to four weeks.
There is some good news for Coach Stefano Colantuono, as goalkeeper Alberto Fontana has recovered from an injury he sustained against Empoli last weekend.
Marco Pisano and Ciro Capuano are also fit again and potentially ready to face Reggina on Sunday evening.
“I was happy to be back on the field against Mlada, as it was a starting point to find my match fitness,” said Capuano, who was yet to play this season.
“It is a shame we were defeated by a refereeing error, as the officials did not see the goal was offside and that decision really penalised us.”
The Rosanero had won the first leg 1-0 in the Czech Republic, but conceding that last-minute goal eventually saw them crash out of the UEFA Cup on penalties.
“We were very disappointed at the end, but we are professionals and Sunday’s game with Reggina allows us to get right back on track. We have to win this match at all costs.”
