Hodgson returns to Inter
Saturday 1 December, 2007
Roy Hodgson has quit the Finland national side for a shock return to Inter as a ‘consultant’ to the President.
The 60-year-old Englishman’s departure from his current job was announced in a short statement from the Finnish Federation.
“The FA would have liked to have continued working with Roy Hodgson with whom Finland went so close to qualifying for the Euro 2008 finals.”
He has been linked with the vacant jobs at Euro 2008 flops England, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland, but it seems his future has already been sealed.
Spokesman Pekka Hamalainen is reported to have told newspapers that Hodgson has already signed a contract with Inter.
It is believed he has agreed to become the new consultant to President Massimo Moratti and international representative for the club.
This would involve communicating with UEFA and the G14 union of Europe’s top clubs.
Luis Figo has already been promised the role of international ambassador once he retires at the end of the season, but Hodgson would have a more directorial role.
It would be his third stint at the club after leading Inter to the UEFA Cup Final at the end of his two-year spell in 1997 and a brief return for two Serie A games and the UEFA play-off in 1999. |
