Newcastle chairman Chris Mort has insisted manager Sam Allardyce's job is not in danger despite the constant speculation over his future.
The former Bolton boss has been under pressure since his appointment in May and it got worse as Newcastle took just one point out of nine over Christmas.
But Mort says they are not looking for a replacement for Allardyce.
"There's a different name every week and there's no truth in it. I find all this speculation tedious," said Mort.
On Saturday Newcastle went down to a controversial 2-1 loss at Chelsea, with Salomon Kalou scoring a late winner which looked suspiciously off-side.
But in their previous game, a 1-0 loss to Wigan, the Magpies managed just one shot on goal and were barracked by their own fans, and Allardyce admitted he could not argue with their assessment of the team's performance.
"If I was them I would be singing what they sang because we're not good enough," he said.
"I know it's not good enough, so it doesn't take much for them to work out it's not good enough. They are not daft."
Newspaper speculation has mentioned former Magpies hero Alan Shearer and ex-Tottenham boss Martin Jol as possible successors to Allardyce.
Newcastle's next game is at home to Manchester City on 2 January.
