Hannover have confirmed the signing of Mikael Forssell from Birmingham City...


Mikael Forssell has left Alex McLeish's relegated Birmingham to sign a three-year deal with Bundesliga outfit Hannover 96.

Now-Championship side Birmingham were keen to keep the 27-year-old Finn at St Andrew's, but his contract was due to expire in June.

Hannover's sporting director Christian Hochstatter told the club's official website: "We are very happy that we could persuade Mikael to join."

Striker Forssell added: "I am looking forward to playing for Hannover and in the Bundesliga."

Unleash McLeish

Blues boss McLeish feels that the club has enough firepower to survive sans-Forssell, adding: "We have good strikers here already.

"Cameron Jerome can look back at his first season in the Premier League and say he did well, but there's definitely a chance for him to really shine and get back to the Premier League and show what a potent force he can become.

"With Garry O'Connor - although I believe he still has to win over the fans - he can use his left foot, right foot, he's quick enough and he's good in the air but he's got to come back with all guns blazing."

James McFadden, meanwhile, has only been at the club since January, yet rumours are circulating that he doesn't intend to play in the second tier.

Big Eck, though, is sure his Scottish countryman is up for the challenge of gunning the side back into the Premiership.

"McFadden, of course, was on fire before his injury and it was a shame to lose him at such a critical time at the end of the season," McLeish said.

"But as far I'm concerned he's definitely staying. It would need to be a ridiculous offer and an offer that would enable me to bring in somebody as good or better."

Emre 'deal done', say Fenerbahce
Fenerbahce claim to have agreed a deal with Newcastle to sign midfielder Emre Belozoglu on a three-year contract.
Turkey captain Emre, 27, has failed to shine at St James' Park after moving to there from Inter Milan in 2005 for £4m.
"Fenerbahce have reached an agreement with Newcastle United in order to sign the Turkish superstar Emre Belozoglu," read a statement on the club's website.
Newcastle are yet to comment but according to reports the transfer fee involved could be about £8m.
Emre, a former Galatasaray and Inter Milan player, came to real prominence after helping Turkey to a third-place finish at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea.
He has made 58 appearances for the Magpies, scoring five goals, and is under contract until 2011.

曾在韋根時代與祖維爾合作的艾靈頓，今次以借用一年形式加盟，並可在明年夏天以自由身正式簽約。至於廿六歲的佐敦史超活則為免費加盟。

Joey Barton - found not guilty at Liverpool Magistrates Court today
Joey Barton has been cleared of criminal damage and found not guilty at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court of vandalizing a taxi after a night out in March last year.
Barton, who is currently serving 6 months in jail after admitting assault and affray to a 27th December altercation in Liverpool, left court to return to prison after the half-day trial.
Prosecutors alleged the player was with his cousin Joshua Wilson, 19, in the taxi in the early hours of March 4th of last year, when a row broke out at a McDonald’s in Liverpool.
Lawyer Robert Jansen said Barton became aggressive when the driver, Michael Kay, refused to go through a drive-through. Jansen then claimed that Barton ripped out the cabbie’s radio after Kay refused to continue the journey.
However, fingerprints on the smashed screen were not Barton’s, and his cousin admitted in court that he in fact he had caused the damage.
It then took magistrates just 15 minutes to acquit the former Manchester City player.
Upon hearing the verdict, Barton said “thank you”, and is said to have smiled across to his father, who was in court.
That’s now two down and one to go for Barton.
His next appearance in court is at the end of June where he is charged with assault in an altercation last May 1st (2007) against his then Man City team-mate Ousmane Dabo.
Whether these events will cause Barton to rethink his life and career and finally and get on the straight and narrow, we don’t know.
But for Joey’s sake, we sure hope it causes him to have a big rethink on some of his actions of the past year.
