RONALDO CONFIRMS HE WANTS TO LEAVE
[From: football365.com]
Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly confirmed he wants to leave Manchester United for Real Madrid.
In a set of remarks that make clear his intentions and are markedly less ambiguous than those uttered to the rest of the world's media following Portugal's Euro 2008 exit, Ronaldo is quoted as saying by that bastion of reliability The Sun that he wishes to depart Old Trafford.
"In the next few days there could be news," he told the newspaper. "The possibilities of me going to Madrid are great but it does not depend on me. I know there is a concrete offer on the table, now let's see if we can reach a deal in the next days.
"Everyone knows what I want. I have many desires and in the next days they will become clear."
"For me it's a very good opportunity. As [Luiz Felipe] Scolari says, this only happens once."
That Ronaldo cited Scolari, recently installed as Chelsea's new manager, as a factor in his decision is bound to infuriate Manchester United.
Asked when his decision to leave Manchester for Madrid was made, Ronaldo replied: "Some time ago, before this competition.
"I didn't want to say anything because we were in competition and these are important decisions. I think it could be good for both of us."
As Ronaldo's remarks to other media outlets were neither as plain nor cited Real Madrid specifically - the forward is instead widely quoted as saying, "In the next few days we will see if we can arrive at an agreement. I have many desires and in the next few days they will become clear" - it is curious, not to say intriguing, that The Sun has managed to hear what no other reporter in Basle heard.
However, there is good reason to suspect that the newspaper wouldn't dare to put words into his mouth - only yesterday, the newspaper was successfully sued by Ronaldo for claiming that he was spotted using a mobile phone during training. |
