Duo face six-point deduction
Friday 18 July, 2008
Atalanta and Livorno run the risk of six-point penalties if their players are found guilty of fixing the results of last season’s encounters.
Five players stand accused of “making agreements” ahead of the clubs’ encounters last season, which ended in a 1-1 draw and a 3-2 win for Atalanta.
Emanuele and Antonio Filippini and Alessandro Grandoni stand accused as well as the two captains David Balleri [pictured] and Gian Paolo Bellini.
Federal prosecutor Stefano Palazzo has called for Balleri and Bellini to be banned for three and a half years and for both clubs to be docked six points in the coming campaign.
The investigation is ongoing, but the spectre of a point penalty will loom large over UEFA Cup hopefuls Atalanta and newly relegated Livorno, who are desperate to book a return ticket to Serie A. |
