Romania will be probably without Mirel Radoi for the rest of Euro 2008 after suffering a serious facial injury against Italy.
The midfielder was stretchered off after he clashed heads with teammate Razvan Rat in the 1-1 draw.
“I was told it is quite serious,” revealed Coach Victor Piturca. “Apparently he will need eye surgery and he has a broken nose, too.
“Although I haven’t spoken to the doctor, I don’t think he will be able to play the next game.”
The Steaua Bucharest man was stretchered off with large bandages covering the left side of his face, so the extent of the damage was not seen.
It is possible he has fractured his cheekbone as well as his nose, requiring surgery to stabilise them.
Rat was able to continue playing with a bandage on his forehead, although it came away in the second half, sending blood pouring down his face.
Romania have drawn both their Group C games against France and Italy. They will reach the quarter-finals if they defeat Holland in the last match.
