The Lupi were dealt the major blow early this morning, when it was confirmed that the Selecao captain had reported muscular problems during the 2010 World Cup qualifying game against the Columbians.
Coach Carlos Dunga was forced to replace Juan after 75 minutes, when the 29-year-old felt a muscular twinge. However, the extent of his injury is still unknown and he will undergo thorough medical tests once he will land back in the Italian capital city over the next few hours.
If the strong centre-back will sit out the Stadio Olimpico clash with the Italian champions, coach Luciano Spalletti will find it hard to cobble together a back-line to contain the flamboyant Nerazzurri's front line.
In fact, Christian Panucci and Frenchman Philippe Mexes were sent off at the Stadio Franchi in Siena before the international break and are suspended for the visit of the Beneamata. Moreover, Marco Cassetti is also on the sidelines and will not make the squad.
The Lupi are in desperate need of three points on Sunday night to close the gap on the Via Durini outfit. Last season they fought tooth and nail with the Beneamata until the final day of the season, but are already 6 points adrift of the early pacesetters this season. And the group of leaders includes local rivals Lazio, who will come face to face with the Giallorossi in an eagerly anticipated Roman Derby on November 13.
