A clinical Wayne Rooney strike into the far corner on 73 minutes sealed the win over the Ecuadorean champions.

However there was bad news for manager Alex Ferguson when centre-half Nemanja Vidic was sent off for pushing an elbow into the head of Claudio Bieler after a challenge soon after half-time.

He will now miss the first leg of the Champions League last 16 against Internazionale in Milan.
