Reggina axe Orlandi

Reggina have opted to axe struggling Coach Nevio Orlandi and reports suggest that his successor has already been chosen.
The inexperienced Orlandi stepped in to save the Calabrians from the drop last term when he replaced Renzo Ulivieri, but he hasn't enjoyed the same kind of success this year.
After last weekend's home defeat against Sampdoria - their 10th of the campaign - Reggina find themselves in penultimate place and in severe danger of the drop.
President Lillo Foti [pictured] called Orlandi last night to relieve him of his duties and the news was officially released early this morning on the club's website.
Press reports suggest that ex-Chievo boss Beppe Pillon will take over at the Stadio Granillo within the next 48 hours.

Pillon takes Reggina reins

Former Chievo boss Giuseppe Pillon has been appointed as Reggina Coach after the dismissal of Nevio Orlandi.
Orlandi was axed this morning after last weekend's 2-0 defeat at home to Sampdoria left the Calabrians in penultimate place.
The Italian Press had expected Pillon to be handed the job and that was confirmed just hours after Orlandi's departure.
“”I am coming to an important club who have given me the chance to work in Serie A,” Pillon told Reggina TV.
“It is something that I have wanted so much since my experience with Chievo.
“I want to make the most of my chance. I like the team I have seen and I think they have the potential to do really well.
“I really believe in the objective of survival and I will try and achieve it at all costs.”
After being axed by Chievo in 2007, Pillon took over hometown club Treviso, but the 2007-08 campaign was a big disappointment and he was sacked in July. |
