Pennant turns down move to Portsmouth
Jermaine Pennant has turned down the latest bid to take him away from Anfield, saying he is not interested in a move to Portsmouth.
Portsmouth had confirmed they have agreed a fee with Liverpool for winger Jermaine Pennant, believed to be in the region of £2 million but Pennant signalled his reluctance to leave Merseyside, choosing instead to see out his contract, which runs out this summer.
''My preference is to stay at Liverpool and I am still hoping to do so,'' said Pennant. ''There has been a lot of speculation about my future but I have always maintained my position of wanting to stay at the club.
''I am happy to compete for my place here and hope I am given the chance to do so.''
Pennant was the subject of a suprising approach from Spanish champions Real Madrid last month and AC Milan have also been linked with the 26-year-old, although wage demands have reportedly held up his transfer dealings thus far.
The winger has also been sounded out by Hull City and Wigan Athletic but is reluctant to leave the club, claiming he wants to fight for a first-team place.
Rueful Pompey boss Tony Adams admitted: "It's down to the player."
Meanwhile, Daniel Agger's agent has dismissed speculation linking the defender with a move to AC Milan.
The reports surfaced after agent Per Steffensen was seen in Milan - but he insists his client is not on the verge of leaving Liverpool.
"Daniel is still under contract with Liverpool for 18 months," Steffensen told Ekstra Bladet. "I am a reliable player agent and it is obvious that I am not starting any negotiations concerning a transfer in such a situation.
"Whoever wants to sign Daniel at this point has to get in touch with Liverpool FC first. These are the rules in this business. Daniel does not want to move actually." |
