Sir Alex Ferguson will hope he can patch up his back four for Tuesday's clash with Internazionale, but only six defenders travelled with the squad to Italy, two of them carrying injuries.

The 22-man Reds squad departed Manchester airport on Monday morning headed for Milan in fine form domestically. However, concerns over the fitness of Jonny Evans (ankle) and John O'Shea (heel) add to the problems caused by the absence of Nemanja Vidic, Gary Neville, Wes Brown and Rafael.

Vidic is serving out a one-match suspension, Neville and Brown have both been nursing injuries, while Rafael it appears picked up an injury during the 2-1 win over Blackburn at the weekend.

The six defenders that have travelled are Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra, O'Shea, Evans, Fabio and Eckersley.

That said, other than Anderson, the rest of the squad can report a clean bill of health.

New signing Zoran Tosic travelled with the squad for the experience, but the winger cannot play as he is cup-tied.

Travelling squad
Goalkeepers: Van der Sar, Foster, Kuszczak.
Defenders: Ferdinand, Evra, O'Shea, Evans, Fabio, Eckersley.
Midfielders: Giggs, Park, Carrick, Nani, Scholes, Possebon, Gibson, Fletcher, Ronaldo.
Forwards: Rooney, Berbatov, Tevez, Welbeck.

拉非爾打唔到未必是壞事, 這兩三場比賽明顯見到佢太過輕出.

Inter boss Jose Mourinho was at his outspoken best as he declared most of his starting 11 to play Manchester United in today's Press conference.

The Portuguese tactician knows that even if he delivers the Scudetto he will be judged on the Nerazzurri's Champions League campaign.

And the Italian champions must negotiate the reigning European champions if they are to advance to the quarter-finals.

“I don't think Serie A and the Premier League can be compared - they are two different competitions,” Mourinho said.

“I keep saying that the game in England is more emotional, beautiful and open with an incredible atmosphere, but teams are stronger from a tactical viewpoint in Italy.

“Every team is organised in Serie A and they know what to do on the pitch. There are also a lot of goals and a lot of ambitious teams - look at Udinese, Fiorentina and Genoa playing high-level football.”

Mourinho has experience of facing Sir Alex Ferguson after his time at Chelsea where he got the better of the Scottish mastermind.

“Sir Alex has more experience than me and Manchester United are in a great position, seven points clear in the League,” Jose stated.

“This tie doesn't mean anything special. The objective is just to get through. I have no extra desire to beat anyone in particular.

“We were happy with the draw because it's very easy for me to prepare the players psychologically. The adrenaline is already in the air.

“United are a great attacking team, but I watched every game they played in the Champions League last year in detail.

“They will not come here with an attacking approach. We will play the same way we do in Serie A.

“It will be a 4-4-2 system with Adriano and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in attack. I am not afraid to say that.
