Inter Defender Davide Santon Keeps Feet On The Ground
‘The Kid’ has quickly climbed up the Nerazzuri ladder this term, but admits he will not get carried away.
Inter youth academy product Davide Santon has grabbed plenty of column inches in recent weeks and Italian pundits have drawn comparisons with football legends such as Giacinto Facchetti and Paolo Maldini.
Italy boss Marcello Lippi also heaped praise on the 18-year-old and he can look forward to a bright career in Azzurro.
“I am not getting carried away and just keep going down this path,” Santon is quoted as saying in Il Secolo XIX.
“All these compliments, like the ones from Lippi, are simply charging me up, but I still need to improve and learn how to cross with my left foot.”
Santon has usurped Maxwell’s place in the Beneamata’s starting XI and the Brazilian looks set to depart at the end of the season.
“I know that losing your place to an 18-year-old is not a nice thing, but I have a wonderful rapport with Maxwell,” insisted the defender.
“We are a great group and I want to thank all my team-mates who have helped me a lot. [Jose] Mourinho has always nice words for me, he is a straightforward person, but he sometimes takes it too far.”
The Portuguese tactician was sent off for dissent during the Inter - Fiorentina game last night, as he demanded a second yellow card for Viola midfielder Felipe Melo after a foul on Santon.
