Positive twist in Saints talks
Potential takeover moves a step closer
Southampton have revealed that they are 'very close' to reaching an agreement with a potential investor.
The Saints have been crippled by financial difficulties of late, with the club's staff going unpaid this month.
They are also facing up to a 10-point penalty at the start of next season and are in danger of being forced to part with their best players.
However, the security they seek would come in the form of a takeover, and that ambition has moved a step closer.
The joint administrator of the club's holding company, Southampton Leisure Holdings, has revealed that talks with interested parties are progressing positively, with an exclusivity deal close to completion with one of those in the running.
"We are still negotiating with four seriously interested parties, but the process of disposing of the shares in a football club, particularly a distressed one in this economic climate, is an extremely complex one and it has not yet been possible to conclude a sale," Mark Fry told the club's official website.
"However, I am confident that we are very close to entering into an exclusivity arrangement with one of the interested parties." |
