Fiorentina are looking to strengthen their squad for next season with a number of players, such as Edgar Barreto and Edinho.

The midfield duo, playing respectively for Reggina and Lecce, should come in cheap considering that their sides have been relegated this season.

Director Pantaleo Corvino is also trying to find enough cover in case Felipe Melo decides to leave the Franchi to join Inter.

“Edgar would be really happy to move to Florence as it would allow him to play in the Champions League,” noted Barreto’s agent, Riccardo Calleri.

“I believe President Lillo Foti would allow him to leave for a big club so there should be no problem and we are now waiting for the Viola to make a move.

“Regarding the price tag something between £5 and £7m should be about right, but as I said there is no agreement yet.”

Edinho is another interesting option for the Gigliati. The Brazilian midfielder moved to Serie A last January after a spell at International of Porto Alegre.

His contract with Lecce expires in 2014 but Corvino could use his contacts over there to find a way out.

Meanwhile, Sampdoria defender Hugo Campagnaro, who looked close to a Fiorentina switch, has received offers from Napoli and Roma so his transfer to Florence may fall through.

Milan are considering making an offer for Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

The 23-year-old Bosnia international won the Footballer of the Year award in Germany after scoring 32 goals in 34 appearances for Die Wölfe.

Dzeko formed an incredible strike partnership with Grafite and the two propelled Wolfsburg to their first ever Bundesliga title.

Milan have been linked with Diego Forlan, Emmanuel Adebayor and Didier Drogba, but Dzeko apparently represents better value for money.

Bayern Munich were reportedly interested in his signature, but decided to buy Mario Gomez and Ivica Olic instead.

Roma join Owen chase

Roma are challenging Aston Villa for the services of out of contract England striker Michael Owen.

The 29-year-old’s contract with relegated Newcastle United expires on June 30 and he is looking for another chance to shine at the top level.

The Giallorossi need a new forward to replace Vincenzo Montella, who has struggled to make an impact due to numerous injuries and the advancing years.

This is not the first time that Owen has been linked with a switch to Serie A, as he was considered for a spell at Inter and Juventus a few years ago.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Owen will have to accept a substantial cut to his £100,000 per week wages to join Roma.

The News of the World warns that Aston Villa are also in talks with Owen’s management, but would represent an even lower wage deal.
