Wenger considers Traore move

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is considering a move for talented teenage Ivory Coast striker Lacina Traore.

The 19-year-old, who is currently on the books of Romanian outfit CFR Cluj, has been likened to former Emirates Stadium forward Emmanuel Adebayor.
Wenger is reported to have been alerted to his talents by Jean-Marc Guillou, who gave the Gunners boss his break in coaching and now runs an academy in the Ivory Coast where he spotted the tall frontman's talents.

Traore would relish the opportunity to prove his worth in the Premier League and is excited by the prospect of a switch to the North London giants.

"It would be a dream for me to get to play on a team so great," Traore is quoted by Daily Express. "I have a chance there because Arsene Wenger relies heavily on young players.

"There is great pressure on me now because I am being linked with big European clubs, but this is my ambition.

"The Ivory Coast coach has already told me I will get my chance with the national team, but my chances of that happening would certainly increase if I was to join a big team like Arsenal.

"It is sensational to hear Wenger is watching me. I could be a success in England.

"Even though I am still young, I have a lot of experience and a lot of ambition. Wherever I go it will be hard at first, but I'm sure I would settle in."

Traore's current employers Cluj have confirmed initial discussions have already taken place with the Gunners and they have told the Premier League side of their asking price.

Club president Iuliu Muresan added: "We have had contact from Arsenal but we have not received a concrete offer yet.

"Four million euros is close to the amount we are seeking."

Fulham's game against Portsmouth, Stoke's trip to Burnley and Sunderland's fixture against Bolton at the Stadium of Light were all called off on Friday.

Liverpool are also seeking to have their game against Tottenham on Sunday called off after heavy snowfall across England.

Vieira: Man City can win title

Manchester City midfielder Patrick Vieira believes his new club are still in the Premier League title race and that there is enough quality at Eastlands to win a trophy for the first time in 33 years.

The veteran France international passed a medical on Thursday to become Roberto Mancini's first signing as City manager and was presented to the media on Friday afternoon.

"When you look at the players the club has got you can achieve a lot," Vieira said. "I strongly believe we are not out of the race to win the title. I am sure we can do it.''

"I chose City because I really believe something can be achieved at this club and I want to be part of it. I believe the team is strong enough to win trophies."

Vieira joined City from Inter Milan, where he won three Serie A titles, two under the guidance of Mancini, and hopes to add to the three Premier League titles he won with Arsenal.

The midfielder signed a six-month deal at Eastlands with an option for a further year and is confident he will prove he still has what it takes to perform at the top level.

"I believe in myself," Vieira said. "I know I am not 20, but I am not 40-45. Overall I am really motivated. I know I can give something to this club and hopefully we will be successful this year."

Vieira also admitted the move was motivated in part by his desire to secure first-team football to work his way into the France squad ahead of the World Cup finals.

"I hope that the club as well will give me the opportunity to get back to the French national team,'' he added.

Mancini was delighted to be reunited with Vieira and believes his new signing will help City to improve their performances this season.

"Patrick is a world class midfielder with a winner's mentality and will fit into this group very well," Mancini said. "He knows me and my staff well and importantly he also knows what the Premier League is all about. He will not need much time to settle in.

"Patrick won with Arsenal, with Juventus, with Inter a lot of trophies. I think he must continue at City. He can help us to improve our performance, for sure.''

It remains to be seen whether he will be match fit to face Blackburn Rovers on Monday night, having taken in kick to the calf in his final appearance for Inter on Wednesday. In any case, Vieira knows he will have to prove he is worthy of a place in the City starting line-up.

"I have to show the manager I deserve to play, show to the players I deserve to play,'' he said. "I have to show in every training session I deserve to play. It will not be easy. I will have to fight for my place.''

Vieira has taken the squad number 24 and will be reunited with former Highbury teammates Kolo Toure and Sylvinho.

Wenger - Campbell has a fantastic attitude

Arsène Wenger expects Sol Campbell to sign for a Premier League club in the near future.

The former Arsenal and England centre back has been training under Wenger's watchful eye at London Colney since his short-lived spell with Notts County ended earlier this season.

The Arsenal manager would not be drawn on whether he would try and re-sign the 35-year-old defender but, speaking to reporters, Wenger admitted he is still a big fan of Campbell.

"He has a fantastic attitude and good fitness," said the Frenchman.

"Of course he is not the youngest but he is in a very good shape. He can still play in the Premier League, I've said that many times.

"He is important in the dressing-room as well. He's positive with the young players.

"Every year we have one or two like that and I think a Premier League club will sign him."

Wilshere out but Bendtner back in two weeks

Arsène Wenger expects to see Nicklas Bendtner back in action in two weeks' time.

The Danish striker was last seen limping off during the north London derby on October 31 with a groin problem. Bendtner has since undergone surgery on a hernia but his initial injury has taken longer to heal.

Finally though, the end of the road is in sight for the 21-year-old after a successful return to training on Friday.

"He is doing well in training and had a good session today, so the news is quite good," said Wenger.

"I would say he could be back in two weeks."

The manager confirmed the team news announced on Arsenal.com on Thursday with Tomas Rosicky set to return against Everton. However, one new name has been added to the injury list.

"Compared to the squad who was available against Bolton, we just have Rosicky back," said Wenger, "but Jack Wilshere out with a small hamstring problem.

"We do not think it is a very big [problem]."

Arsène Wenger will not be making a move to sign Andre-Pierre Gignac.

The Arsenal manager has admitted he is considering signing a new striker during the current transfer window and Gignac is just one of a number of names linked with a move to Emirates Stadium.

The 24-year-old has scored 35 goals in 85 appearances for Toulouse and has become a regular in the French international squad, netting four times in ten appearances for Les Blues.

But while Wenger says he is an admirer of the striker, the manager concedes that the French international is too expensive to be an Arsenal transfer target.

"I like the player," admitted Wenger. "I don't need to send people to watch him because I know him well enough already because he plays for the French national team.

"Lyon tried to buy him last year for nearly £20million, so the price was too high."

West Ham match iced off

Sunday's Barclays Premier League match between West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers has been postponed.

Adverse weather conditions have led to health and safety concerns in the area surrounding the Boleyn Ground, with the well-being of supporters the main priority.

The decision was taken on Saturday morning after the Premier League consulted with local authorities and the police.

The Wolves squad had trained at Molineux on Saturday morning but the decision came before they were due to travel to London.

Both clubs' official websites will have full information of the new date for the fixture as soon as it is confirmed.

All tickets sold will remain valid for the rearranged match while anyone requiring a refund, once the details are known, should contact the ticket office.
