Moratti: 'It's like 45 years ago'
Saturday 22 May, 2010
Inter President Massimo Moratti follows in his father's footsteps by winning the European Cup. “It's the same joy as 45 years ago.”
The patron was only a child when father Angelo Moratti lifted the trophy in 1964 and '65.
“I didn't cry, but Jose Mourinho did, so that shows how much he cares about this club! I am very happy and found the players absolutely overcome with emotion,” said Moratti.
“This is a wonderful moment and I hope it will remain in the hearts of the fans the same way it did many years ago.
“The team felt a great responsibility on its shoulders and played the perfect game tonight.”
On the way to the Treble, Inter beat the champions of Spain, England and Germany, eventually seeing off Bayern Munich 2-0 in the Final.
“It was a fantastic tournament and the team absolutely deserved this victory.”
Moratti went up with the team to get the silverware and was even handed a winners' medal by UEFA President Michel Platini.
“Platini gave me the winners' medal because he likes me, but I don't think the President is meant to get one!”
The question marks remain over whether this was the final Inter match for Mourinho.
“Tonight we celebrate and eventually sleep, then we'll see.” |
