Francesco Toldo has officially confirmed his retirement at the age of 38. “This has been my work for 20 years.”
The Inter goalkeeper has hung up his gloves after seven seasons at Fiorentina and eight at San Siro.
“My summer holidays have been nice and this year they’re longer than usual, seeing as I am giving up football,” he told Inter Channel.
“It is the first time I am saying it officially and I am quite moved, as this has been my work for 20 years.
“Despite this, I will continue at Inter and the collaboration that ties me to Inter Campus, trying to keep the image of this youth event at a high level and spreading the word of Inter.”
The former Italy goalkeeper, who earned a silver medal at Euro 2000 after his penalty-saving exploits against Holland, does not intend to play a testimonial.
Toldo had praise for the Nerazzurri and ends his career with the Treble under his belt, even if he barely featured.
“I think that in the last few years the squad has been honest and fair with everyone, which is why the victories came along and that helped the whole atmosphere at Inter.
“The personal situations were set aside in favour of the team unit.”
