Wilshere - I will learn from red card

Jack Wilshere admits he deserved to be sent off against Birmingham on Saturday but has vowed to learn from the incident.
The Arsenal midfielder received a straight red card in the dying minutes at Emirates Stadium following a challenge on Nikola Zigic.
The 19-year-old was contrite when he spoke to Arsenal.com afterwards but he will still be punished with a three-game domestic ban.
“I just want to say that I mistimed the challenge on Zigic and accept that I deserved to be sent off,” said Wilshere.
“I have no complaints about getting the red card and I will learn from this. I’m missing three matches now which I’m really disappointed about, but I just want to say that I deserved the red card.”
‘Jack’s under more pressure than Cesc was’

Arsène Wenger believes Jack Wilshere’s nationality increases the scrutiny on his promising young career.
The 18-year-old has been in magnificent form and has become an integral part of Wenger’s side this season, but unfortunately made the headlines for the wrong reasons when he was sent off against Birmingham on Saturday.
After the departure of Patrick Vieira five years ago there was a great weight of expectation heaped on the shoulders of Cesc Fabregas as he burst onto the scene, but his manager feels that Wilshere has to deal with more pressure from both media and fans alike.
“The problem Wilshere will face is the pressure and expectation level will be higher for him than Fabregas because there is a demand inside the country,” said Wenger.
"It was good for Fabregas not to play in his country because you have a quieter development and the pressure is less big on you.
"You must also say his maturity shows in the game, the influence he has on the game at 18 years old is something that should not be hidden by the fact that he got a red card on Saturday.
"Jack will learn [from the red card]. At 18, Fabregas also had impulsive reactions. Jack got away with a red card, which he deserved, but the player didn't get injured. He will learn because he will not play in the next games.
“He is a beautiful player and he has the science of the game to be influential in the Premier League. We were all 18.” |
