Denilson shortlisted for Samba Gold award

Brazilian football portal sambafoot.com has launched its third annual Samba Gold poll to discover the best Brazilian footballer playing in Europe - and Arsenal midfielder Denilson has been shortlisted.

The midfielder is named on a 30-strong shortlist alongside previous winners Luis Fabiano and Kaka, as well as Premier League rivals Rafael da Silva (Manchester United), Lucas (Liverpool), Alex (Chelsea) and Ramires (Chelsea).

Wenger - Lansbury will be an Arsenal player

Henri Lansbury has the ability to make it at Arsenal, according to Arsène Wenger.

The midfielder broke into the first-team squad at the beginning of the season and scored in the Carling Cup win at Tottenham in September but did not make another start before joining Norwich City on a short-term loan move.

Lansbury has shone for Paul Lambert’s side in his four appearances so far but Wenger believes he can, and will, end up playing at a much higher level.

“For me, Lansbury will be an Arsenal player,” said Wenger. “He is doing extremely well [on loan].”

Another Arsenal midfielder out on loan is Aaron Ramsey but he has been frustrated by the weather since joining Nottingham Forest. “Ramsey’s bad luck was that he went [on loan] and the games were cancelled,” said Wenger.

“So we don’t get the games we want, but he is doing well.”

Skysports.com understands Newcastle are prepared to sell Joey Barton for a cut-price fee of £1.5million in January.

The Magpies are believed to be willing to listen to offers for the midfield dynamo with Barton entering the final 18 months of his contract.

The news has alerted a host of clubs to Barton's possible availability when the transfer window reopens next month.

West Ham and Aston Villa are both thought to be leading the chase for the former Manchester City star as they look to bolster their midfield options.

Barton has arguably been Newcastle's stand-out performer this season with a number of eye-catching displays leading to calls for a return to the international scene with England.

The 28-year-old has chipped in with two goals and four assists in the Premier League with the midfielder providing much of the ammunition for Andy Carroll's goals this term.

Despite his impressive form this season, Newcastle are thought to be willing to cash in on Barton in a bid to trim their wage bill and bring in some funds.

Mario Balotelli has been named the best young player in Europe - and claims he hasn't heard of second-placed Jack Wilshere.

The troublesome Manchester City striker won the prestigious Golden Boy award voted organised by Italian newspaper Tuttosport and voted for by journalists across Europe to recognise the most talented player Under 21.

Highly rated Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David de Gea - wanted by Manchester United - is third, but it is runner-up Wilshere who got Balotelli scratching his head.

'What's his name? Wil...? No, I just don’t know him, but the next time I play against Arsenal I'll try to be careful,' said the Italy international. 'Maybe I could show him the Golden Boy trophy and remind him that I won.'

Balotelli clearly hasn't been paying enough to City's rivals, with Wilshere widely regarded as the most promising English player of his generation.

The 18-year-old has been a regular starter this season and earned an England debut as a substitute against Hungary in August, but he missed Arsenal's 3-0 win at City in October because of suspension.

Everton inflicted a second home defeat on Roberto Mancini's side with a 2-1 win on Monday night, but Balotelli is still expecting big things at Eastlands.

Despite reiterating his desire to one day play for the team he loves - AC Milan - the £24million summer signing believes he can first win the Barclays Premier League title with City.

'For 2011 I want the Premier League - to continue the tradition with Inter that saw me win the last three championships - and the Europa League, a trophy I'm yet to win and that surely we are favourites for.'

Asked about the incessant calls from Zlatan Ibrahimovic to join him at Milan, Balotelli replied: 'I tell Ibra to continue calling me to Milan, and one day we will fulfil the wish and I can play in the Rossoneri shirt.'

Confident as ever, Balotelli seems to have little qualms about how his flirting with Milan will play among the City fans just months after signing at five-year contract at Eastlands.

But the Golden Boy award is only fuelling an already inflated ego. Balotelli insists he is better than previous winners such as Wayne Rooney, Cesc Fabregas and Rafael van der Vaart - and has his eye on being recognised as the best in the world.

'There's only one that is a little stronger than me: Messi,' he said of former Golden Boys. 'All the others behind me.

'I am delighted to receive the award, but who else would have won if not me? Two years ago I finished sixth and then fourth in 2009. Now it's my turn, no?

'My goal is, in the near future, to turn this award into the Ballon d'Or, without any age limits. Winning the Golden Boy is certainly a good omen.'

Blackburn appoint Kean as new boss

ESPNsoccernet can reveal that he is to be installed until the end of the season in an attempt by Venky's to provide the club with some stability, and should his spell be successful he will be given a longer contract.

An official announcement will be made on Wednesday after the new owners decided to put their faith in the former Fulham, Real Sociedad and Coventry assistant manager, who has been highly recommended by those within the football industry.

Kean, 43, was initially handed the managerial reigns on a caretaker basis, but has been appointed on a basis, full-time with the go ahead to bring in his own "exciting" players, with sources informing ESPNsoccernet that Kean will be charged with changing the way Blackburn play - to make them more entertaining than under Allardyce.

Kean has no previous experience as a full-time manager, but has made no secret that he would relish taking on the role permanently.
