Arsène Wenger admits he may allow Carlos Vela to go out on loan in January.
The striker has had limited opportunities this season and the manager feels a short-term deal to get him playing time is the best option.
Summer signing Marouane Chamakh has led the Arsenal attack impressively so far and with Nicklas Bendtner back among the goals and Robin van Persie returning to full fitness, Wenger has an abundance of striking options.
Vela has been the one to suffer, with just three starts and eight substitute appearances to his name so far.
“Some offensive players don’t play games like Carlos Vela. If he can get games somewhere else we will loan him out,” said the Frenchman.
“Not sell him, loan him out because he needs to play. He is a top quality player and at the moment we have too many strikers.
“He does not get the games he deserves. He has an opportunity that I let him go somewhere.”
Aaron Ramsey will definitely return to Arsenal when his current loan spell expires on January 3.
The Wales midfielder made his comeback from a broken leg in a Reserve League match in November and then headed to Nottingham Forest to build up his match fitness in the Championship.
But Ramsey has been restricted to one start – against Derby in midweek – after Forest’s schedule was hit by three postponements.
That might have tempted Arsène Wenger to extend Ramsey’s loan at the City Ground but, at his pre-match press conference on Friday, he explained why he won’t.
“We did not get the number of games we wanted from him because of the snow,” said manager. “He is a snow victim and we are as well consequently.
“But I am not tempted to do it [extend his loan]. If Abou Diaby was not injured I would certainly have considered it but not now.
“Aaron is not completely ready yet [for the Premier League] but he has been practising every day with the group for two months. I hope that when he comes back he should be ready in February.”
Arsène Wenger admits that clubs in Spain are interested in signing Manuel Almunia.
The Arsenal goalkeeper has not featured for the first team since the 3-2 defeat against West Brom in September and, in his absence, Lukasz Fabianski has established himself between the posts.
The emergence of Wojciech Szczesny has given Almunia even more competition for his place and, inevitably, there has been speculation over the Spaniard’s future.
Wenger does not know if Almunia will stay at Emirates Stadium but he accepts that the 33-year-old has options.
“Manuel Almunia is a case I will treat with him. It’s up to him [whether he stays],” said Wenger.
There has been interest from Spain but it’s difficult to give a percentage over whether he’ll stay or not.
“It’s never easy [to be out of the team] but that’s part of our job.”
