According to SkySports, the former Vitoria Bahia defender will join the English giants for €25 million [￡21.5m] plus one youngster that Chelsea values at €5m therefore taking the value of the bid to the Portuguese side's original asking price of €30m.
Although not yet confirmed, it is reported that the Portuguese club will be offered the opportunity to sign one of Slobodan Rajkovic, Nemanja Matic, Patrick van Aanholt or Fabio Borini.
The deal will see Benfica get €18.75 million, whilst their investment fund Benfica Stars shall claim €6.25m.
It is also believed that the Brazilian's former clubs Vitoria Bahia and Sao Paulo will receive some of the money, with Vitoria looking to receive €560,000 and Sao Paulo will get €187,000.
The defender reportedly flew into London on Tuesday and underwent a medical, whilst the club also apparently applied for a work permit.
Luiz's Chelsea move under threat as Benfica dig their heels in over £26m defender
Benfica are playing a dangerous game of brinkmanship over David Luiz's proposed move to Chelsea after forcing him to travel to northern Portugal and insisting he will play in Wednesday's cup game against Rio Ave.
The Lisbon club are believed to be unhappy at Chelsea's attempts to include fringe players such as Paulo Ferreira and Nemanja Matic in a part-exchange deal and are ready to risk an injury that could scupper any deal.
They are understood to prefer a straight cash deal of around £26million and are ready to dig their heels in after including Luiz in the squad that headed to Rio Ave. |
