Diego Simeone has said he was "delighted" by the arrival of new manager and fellow Argentine Gerardo 'Tata' Martino at Barcelona.
Atletico Madrid manager Simeone was speaking at a press conference ahead of a pre-season game against his former club Estudiantes in La Plata.
"I am always delighted whenever a compatriot of mine has the opportunity to leave Argentina [for European football]," he said.
"It makes me very happy. I hope he’s able to translate his beliefs onto the pitch and I wish him the best of luck."
The first official title of the season in Spain, the Supercopa, will pit both Argentine managers against each other as Barca take on Atletico, and Simeone knows it will be a tough start to the campaign.
"It will be very difficult because Barelona is the better team. But we’ll be competitive and give it our all and I just hope we have a chance to win it." he added.

Simeone, who won the Copa del Rey with the Colchoneros last season, beating city rivals Real Madrid in the final, also spoke about his side's new striker, David Villa, a replacement for last season's top scorer Radamel Falcao.
"They are both goalscorers. David Villa is older and he isn’t as dangerous as Falcao in the air. But Villa will help us play better as a team. When I spoke to him, he showed me just what an intelligent player he is." |
