Arroyo re-signs for 4yrs,16M

Restricted free agent guard Carlos Arroyo has reached agreement on a four-year, $16 million deal to stay in Utah Jazz, his agent, Herb Rudoy, told ESPN Insider's Chad Ford.

The Bucks and L.A. Lakers also had been negotiating with Arroyo, who averaged 12.6 points and 5.0 assists for the Jazz last season.

Arroyo started 71 games for Utah last season and averaged 12.6 points and 5 assists.

The Jazz have already agreed to terms with Detroit Pistons restricted free agent center Mehmet Okur on a six-year, $50 million offer sheet--an offer the Pistons are not expected to match. Utah re-signed guard Gordan Giricek earlier in the week. And the Jazz had a solid draft, taking guard Kirk Snyder and forward Kris Humphries in the first round.

Arroyo, who replaced all-time assists and steals leader John Stockton in the Jazz lineup last season, is only the franchise's fourth point guard since 1981.

After losing out on free agent center Mark Blount, who agreed to re-sign with the Celtics earlier Thursday, the Philadelphia 76ers reached an agreement with forward Brian Skinner, ESPN's David Aldridge reports.

The deal is to be for five years, $25 million.

Skinner, a former first-round pick who played for the Sixers during the 2002-03 season, played in 56 games last season for the Milwaukee Bucks, averaging 10.5 points and 7.3 rebounds.

The Sixers were in hot pursuit of Blount and put in a call to Detroit Pistons free agent Rasheed Wallace, a Philadelphia native. But by signing Skinner, Philadelphia has effectively taken itself out of the running for Wallace, who is expected to re-sign in Detroit.

Skinner, 28, has averaged 5.8 points and 5.1 rebounds in six seasons in the NBA, while playing for four different teams. His best season was with the Bucks last year. He is considered one of the league's better offensive rebounders.

The 76ers are coming off a disappointing 33-49 finish, missing the playoffs for the first time since the 1997-98 season. They'll be led by Jim O'Brien, the third coach hired by general manager Billy King since Larry Brown resigned after the 2002-03 season.

It's a pivotal offseason for Philadelphia, which could unload several veterans, including center/forward Derrick Coleman, forward Glenn Robinson, point guard Eric Snow and swingman Aaron McKie.

Blount, an unrestricted free agent, was wooed by several teams, notably the Heat and 76ers, but in the end felt like he needed to return to Boston.

"I think Danny [Ainge] and Doc [Rivers] did a great job of convincing him that he would be part of great future in Boston," Bartelstein told Ford. "They stepped up to the plate offering their full mid-level exception and I think at the end of the day, Mark felt like they really wanted him the most."

Blount's contract also includes a 15-percent "trade kicker," meaning that if Blount is traded at any time during the length of the contract, he will receive an additional 15 percent of his remaining salary on top of the salary, a source told ESPN's David Aldridge.

The Sixers made Blount an offer last week, hoping he would want to be reunited with his former Celtics coach, Jim O'Brien, who is now Philadelphia's head coach.

The Sixers may now turn their attention to free-agent forward Brian Skinner, a former 76er who played in Milwaukee last season.

The 7-foot, 250-pound Blount was Boston's only significant unrestricted free agent. The four-year veteran appeared in every regular season game for the Celtics last season, averaging 10.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.

Blount was second in the league in field goal percentage behind Shaquille O'Neal, making 56.6 percent of his shots.

In a March game against the Orlando Magic, Blount scored 28 points and had a career-high 21 rebounds, the most rebounds by a Celtic in a decade.
