DALLAS (TICKER) -- After a long bout with knee problems, Dallas
Mavericks center Evan Eschmeyer has elected to retire, the team
announced Saturday.

Eschmeyer's decision ends a four-year career in which he played in 153
games for the Mavericks, Golden State and New Jersey, the team that
originally drafted him in 1999.

"I feel like the luckiest person in the world to live a dream of mine,"
said the 6-11, 250-pounder. "I am sad it has come to an end, but I know
I have given every ounce of effort every second I have played."

The 29-year-old Eschmeyer missed all of last season following knee
surgery and only appeared in 48 games over two campaigns with Dallas.

A standout at Northwestern University, where he still ranks among the
top two in six major categories, Eschmeyer had his best season in
1999-2000 with the Nets, averaging 3.4 points and 4.9 rebounds in 74 games.
