DING SECURES CRUCIBLE DEBUT

Ding Junhui overcame a slow start against Mark Davis to qualify for the televised stages of the 888.com World Snooker Championship for the first time.


Such is the potential of the Chinese teenager, he had already been installed by bookmakers as second favourite for snooker’s biggest prize despite having to face a testing qualifier at the English Institue of Sport - Sheffield.

The pressure on the 19-year-old mounted as he slipped 4-2 behind against world No 37 Davis. But he recovered to score a 10-6 success and now has the chance to become the youngest ever World Champion.

"I was very nervous and I didn’t play very well," admitted Ding, the youngest player ever to win three ranking titles. "I played some good safety but also some stupid shots.

"I won a big frame to go 8-6 up and after that I felt good. It was a difficult match and Mark played well."

Ding added that he didn’t know how he would feel at the Crucible as he has never been there - he was determined to go the sport’s Theatre of Dreams as a player only rather than as a spectator.

Breaks of 73 and 55 put Ding 2-0 up then Sussex’s Davis hit back with 129, 73, 79 and 47 to take four on the spin.

Ding made a vital 26 clearance to take the next and came from 58-0 down to win frame eight with a 79. Davis secured a 5-4 lead at the end of the first session with a 117.

In taking three of the next four frames Ding edged ahead at 7-6 then added the 14th with a 34 clearance to the black. That broke Davis’ resistance and Ding finished superbly with 114 and 126.

Michael Judge, in fact, could have set a record for the number of players from the Republic of Ireland at the Crucible had he joined O'Brien, Ken Doherty and Joe Delaney.

But the Dubliner went down 10-9 to Hong Kong's Marco Fu. Judge recovered from 6-4 down to lead 8-7 but Fu battled back to 9-9.

A 38 put Judge in charge of the decider but Fu responded with a 43. Escaping from a snooker on the last red, Judge left his opponent a chance and Fu made no mistake with a winning contribution of 21.

"I felt very calm in the last frame, my mind got me through," said Fu, who came within one frame of the final last year, losing 17-16 to Peter Ebdon in the semis. "Maybe Michael couldn't handle the pressure, he kind of threw it away.

"Technically I still have a lot to work on but I'm pleased with the mental side. It's nice to produce the goods in a big match.

"I've had a funny season, especially as I missed the Maplin UK Championship because I chose to play in the Asian Games. I've been struggling to come back in the rankings since then so this was important."

Ronnie O'Sullivan and Ding Junhui, previously considered by bookmakers the two favourites for the 888.com World Snooker Championship title, have been drawn together in the first round at the Crucible.


Ding, the youngest ever winner of three ranking titles, qualified for the televised stages of snooker’s most famous event for the first time by winning his qualifying match against Mark Davis last week.

But the Chinese 19-year-old faces a daunting Crucible debut as he takes on two-times World Champion O’Sullivan in his opening match on Sunday April 22.

It will be a rematch of this season’s Northern Ireland Trophy final, which Ding won 9-6, and the SAGA Insurance Masters final when the Rocket took revenge with a 10-3 victory.

Defending 888.com World Champion Graeme Dott faces Ian McCulloch on the opening day of the Championship – Saturday April 21. Preston’s McCulloch beat Dott 10-9 in the first round two years ago.

One of the most intriguing ties to come out of the draw, which was revealed on BBC Breakfast television this morning, brings together BBC Sport’s two most recognisable snooker pundits.

Veterans Steve Davis and John Parrott, seven world titles and 53 years of professional experience between them, will go head to head. It’s their first competitive meeting since the 2000 Irish Masters and a repeat of the 1989 Crucible final.

World No 1 Stephen Hendry is up against David Gilbert, 65 places below him in the rankings, while last year’s runner-up Peter Ebdon will face 1995 finalist Nigel Bond.

Shaun Murphy, the 2005 champion, will play 17-year-old Judd Trump, who will become the third youngest player ever to compete at the Crucible after Hendry and O’Sullivan.

Australia’s Neil Robertson, the only player to win two ranking titles this term, will take on Malta Cup finalist Ryan Day. Ken Doherty, the 1997 champion from Dublin, plays debutant Mark Allen from Belfast.

There are five debutants in all – the most since 1999.

中國賽爆出開賽最大冷門 傅家俊決胜局淘汰亨德利

中國公開賽今天下午3點繼續進行，引人關注的台球皇帝亨德利和中國香港球星傅家 俊之間的比賽在1號台進行。結果傅家俊5比4險胜亨德利，晉級16強。

　　亨德利是上個90年代的台球霸主，7次世錦賽冠軍其中5連冠的成績前無古人恐怕也很難有來者。不過最近几年隨著 年齡增長亨德利狀態大不如前，這兩個賽季也沒有排名賽冠軍進帳。而反觀傅家俊，在丁俊暉出現之前，他是名頭最大的華人選手，在1997年拿到世界業余大賽冠軍轉入職業並沒有特別搶眼的表現，去年世錦賽殺進半決賽可以算是他的巔峰之一。

　　首局比賽由亨德利率先開球，傅家俊架杆花了1分鐘瞄准打進一顆紅球，但之后右側中袋的粉球出現失誤，給亨德 利留下机會。不過再一杆12分后，亨德利沒法繼續叫位，選擇組合球勉強打中后只能選擇防守。傅家俊半攻半防一 杆之后，雙方進入防守拉鋸。

　　賽前傅家俊曾經表示遭遇亨德利對自己的防守是個大考驗，不過球局實在沒有什麼太好机會，盡管亨德利抓住机會 打進一杆長台，卻根本叫不到彩球好位。而且亨德利自己的狀態确實也實在不怎麼樣，30比1領先時打中袋又失誤 了。傅家俊中1分后還是沒法叫位，還好打進難度不小的粉色中袋，母球剛好叫到球台左側褲邊的紅球底袋，打進 之后利用7分炸球，但是運球不佳，紅球沒有完全炸散比分追到了16比31。亨德利接下來采用非常輕柔的進攻，但 是沒過三杆卻又在一顆近在咫尺的藍色球上失誤了。

　　傅家俊將机會比分迫近到27比38再次給亨德利机會，可惜啊，沒有任何難度的左上角頂袋黃球失誤居然被 台球皇帝 打失手了！傅家俊隨后從台面最后一顆紅球一直打到彩色球階段粉色球，打進6分之后47比39台球超分，傅家俊胜 出。

　　第二局傅家俊開球后台面下方留下兩個遠台紅球可以進攻，亨德利發力打進引來一片掌聲，但是掉轉身來擊打難度 小很多的綠色球右上角頂袋卻又失手了！6比10時，亨德利擊打藍色球右上角頂袋又是同樣的失誤。而隨后的一杆 防守中，甚至直接讓母球落入左上角頂袋。此后兩人似乎沒有太好的處理辦法，只能讓白球在紅球堆里挪動，形成 了僵局，裁判只得碼球重賽一次第二局。

　　再次開球后局面仍然比較沉悶，亨德利一直微弱優勢領先，43比24時台面還剩3顆紅球，傅家俊防守效果不到位給 了亨德利机會，還剩一顆紅球時亨德利57比24領先33分，此時台面還剩35分，只要打進左上角頂袋這顆並不貼庫的 近距離紅球球王即可超分。然而這不到60公分的進攻居然再次刷洞而出，亨德利無奈地搖搖頭可能也是感嘆今天右 上角頂袋為何如此封鎖自己的來球。不過運氣還算眷顧了球王，傅家俊隨后一杆不中之后紅球停在了右下角底袋袋 口，亨德利打進並收到粉球，以85比24贏下第二局。

　　第三局比賽開始后，亨德利這次又在左下角底袋出現令人扼腕的失誤，傅家俊一杆64分沒有給球王起身的机會。第 四局，逐漸找到進攻感覺的傅家俊再接再勵，單杆58分后亨德利稍作抵抗得到16分，再次拿到進攻權的傅家俊又是 一杆37分，95比16拿下第四局。

　　進入中場休息，上半場傅家俊3比1領先亨德利。下半場開始后亨德利進攻上有所氣色，一個百分局讓總分變成了2比3。第六局又打出單杆53分，87比17贏下這一局之后，終于是3比3扳平了總比分。第七局，反角的粉色球打進右下角底袋，15比0。傅家俊右下角底袋中遠台紅球，但是吃下停在右上角底袋黃球后沒有好机會，交換了一次進攻机會之后，傅家俊有好机會，但是在打黑球下右下角底袋時，由于有障礙，所以發力太過謹慎，沒能打進。亨德利單杆54分，以70比9贏下此局，並且4比3反超了比分。

　　第八局 亨德利出杆想防守但沒碰到紅球，送給傅家俊4分，不過隨后傅家俊也沒什麼好机會進攻，防守中母球不到 位輪到亨德利進攻打，圍繞7分球亨德利出單杆58分后選擇防守。奮力一博的傅家俊打進紅球，母球也在右上角頂 袋轉了一圈。從左下角底袋紅球一直打到頂袋紅球，母球走位非常經准，單杆72分，傅家俊在失敗邊緣挽回了劣勢，總比分也變成了4比4平手！

　　進入決胜局傅家俊率先發難，單杆22分取得先机。隨后亨德利有些莫明其妙的一杆隨意防守徹底給了傅家俊机會，打到33分時的一杆反角底袋紅球，隨后小角度粉球打進右側中袋，64分時又架杆打進紅球左下角底袋，接著走中袋藍球，此時已經台面超分了，亨德利隨后開始拆自己的球杆准備認輸了。經過一場起起伏伏的大戰，傅家俊最終5比4淘汰了他此前只贏過兩次的台球皇帝，也算是開賽來一個不小的冷門了。
