ATLANTA (AP) -- The Atlanta Hawks traded shooting guard Jon Barry to the Houston Rockets on Thursday in exchange for point guard Tyronn Lue.
Lue averaged 6 points and 2.8 assists in 23 minutes a game this season for the Rockets.
Lue, 27, was on the Los Angeles Lakers championship team in 2001. After spending two seasons with the Washington Wizards, he signed with the Orlando Magic in 2003, averaging a career-high 10.5 points and 4.2 assists a game. He was traded to Houston in June.
Barry, in his 13th NBA season, also has played for Milwaukee, Golden State, the Lakers, Sacramento, Detroit and Denver.
``This was a move we felt we needed to make,'' Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson said. ``We needed to get an established shooter and Jon has made a career out of making shots everywhere he has played.''
Barry, 33, had a hard time fitting in with the emergence of rookies Josh Smith, Josh Childress and Royal Ivey. In 16 games this season for Atlanta, Barry had 5.2 points and 1.8 assists in 17 minutes per contest.
``We didn't feel like there could be a lot of playing time for Jon at that shooting guard position,'' said Hawks general manager Billy Knight.
