Happy Hewitt to become a father
Cartwright and Hewitt have enjoyed a whirlwind romance
Australia's Lleyton Hewitt and his fiancée Rebecca Cartwright are expecting a child later this year, the couple announced on Friday.
Australian media reported that Cartwright, a 21-year-old actress in the Australian television soap Home and Away, was three months pregnant.
Hewitt's management confirmed the couple were expecting a baby, as did Cartwright's publicist Amanda Fry.
"Their families are delighted with the wonderful news," Fry added.
World number two Hewitt proposed to Cartwright after losing January's Australian Open final to Russian Marat Safin following a whirlwind romance.
Hewitt and Clijsters reveal split
Hewitt, 24, had been due to marry Belgian tennis player Kim Clijsters next month but she called the wedding off in October following a four-year relationship.
Cartwright was also involved in a long-term relationship before splitting with actor Beau Brady late last year.
She was a regular fixture in the Hewitt family supporters' box during the Australian Open, but their sudden engagement caught everyone by surprise.
A wedding date has not been announced, but the pair have reportedly purchased a multi-million dollar home along one of Sydney's northern beaches. |
