Stephen Makinwa’s agent has announced a deal with Palermo, opening the door for Luca Toni to leave the Sicilian club.
“As far as I know, Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has closed the deal for Makinwa,” explained his agent Silvano Martina on Fiorentina.it.
If the Rosanero officially confirm the completion of this move, it will be quite a coup, as the Nigerian hitman had also been linked with Inter and Milan.
The 22-year-old striker split last season between Genoa and Atalanta, scoring six goals in Serie B before netting another six in the top flight.
The pacey forward’s presence will add fuel to the fire quickly building around Luca Toni, whose future is increasingly uncertain.
Today President Zamparini set an £11m price-tag on the Italian international and the arrival of Makinwa and Brescia’s Andrea Caracciolo suggests his services are no longer required.
Fiorentina are keeping a close eye on the situation and are expected to increase their £7m offer over the next few days.
In other transfer news, Torino have agreed to loan goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino to Greek outfit AEK Athens for £700,000. “I am sad to be leaving the Granata, but at the same time looking forward to this challenging opportunity,” said the 26-year-old.
