Figo set for Liverpool move

MADRID (AFP) - Real Madrid's Portugal forward Luis Figo is poised to join European champions Liverpool.

Real were reported to have accepted a 3 million euro (2 million pound) bid from the English Premiership side, the Marca sports daily said Thursday.

Figo, 32, was on the bench for Real's last eight league matches.

He cost Real a then-world record 56 million euros (37 million pounds) when he moved from Barcelona five years ago.

Luis Figo has agreed terms for a move to Anfield but the deal has been delayed by Real Madrid's demand for a transfer fee

The Echo reports that the 32-year-old had a verbal agreement with the Spanish giants that he could leave on a free transfer despite having a year left on his contract.

Figo has dropped his wage demands in order to make the move to the European champions but Madrid are now asking for a £2m fee which will scupper the deal if it is not dropped.
