Bored’ Almeyda hangs up boots Sunday 10 July, 2005

Former Serie A star Matias Almeyda has hung up his boots for good as he now finds football "boring".
Announcing his decision to quit River Plate, his current club, the 31-year-old commented: "I haven’t got the same motivation any more.
"Sometimes, during training, I drift off, lose concentration and even feel bored at times!"
Almeyda, who played for Lazio, Parma, Inter and Brescia while in Italy, enjoyed the majority of his success in the Italian capital.
He won Lo Scudetto with the Biancocelesti in 1998, the Cup-Winners’ Cup in 1999, the Coppa Italia in 1998 and 2000, and was part of the Parma side that won the Coppa Italia in 2002.
The former Argentine international started his career at River Plate, winning the Coppa Libertadores there in 1996, as well as the Argentine League Championship in 1993 and 1995.
He was unable to relive his previous successes on his return to the club from Italy. |
