Liverpool are to offer Finnish defender Sami Hyypia a new deal. The 31-year-old's current contract expires next summer.
Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry told his club's official website: "We will be talking to Sami about a new deal.
"We're interested in bringing at least one more centre-half to the club because Sami and Jamie can't be expected to play 50 games every season without any back-up."
