Real Zaragoza confirmed that Liverpool have tabled an offer for Argentinian defender Gabriel Milito - but claim the player is not for sale.
Milito, who has two years left on his contract with the Spanish club, is a target of the Champions League winners, who are looking to strengthen their defence.
Rafael Benitez's outfit have reportedly made a 7.5 million offer for the 24-year-old, who has a 20.7 million buy-out clause in his contract.
"There have been contacts with Liverpool and they have made an offer for Milito," Zaragoza sporting director Miguel Pardeza told PA International.
"But the player is not for sale, he is fundamental for us and we want to keep him."
The South American star came close to signing for Real Madrid two years ago, but he failed the medical because of problems with his knee.
The player is currently on holiday in his native Argentina, and Zaragoza are keen to secure his future when he returns to the club for pre-season training.
Pardeza has already offered Milito a contract extension which will see him become the highest earner at the Spanish club.
"We have offered him a three-year contract extension and he has taken some time to reflect," said Pardeza. "But soon we will have an answer."
Zaragoza are understandably desperate to hold onto one of their most prized assets but whether the player himself is keen on a move to Anfield remains to be seen. |
