Inter 'not optimistic' over Figo deal


Inter Milan are 'not optimistic' about their chances of signing Liverpool target Luis Figo.
The Italian club's president Massimo Moratti revealed he is not close to finalising a move for either Figo or the Portuguese star's Real Madrid team-mate Walter Samuel.


'We will try to do something in the next few days,' said Moratti. 'We will see in what direction this takes us, but nothing is free.

'Thus, we are not optimistic when it comes to the financial side of the deal but from the sporting side, we are.

'We are willing to try to do it.'

Samuel, who joined Madrid from Roma last summer, has failed to make much of an impact at the Bernabeu, while midfielder Figo, under contract for another season with the Spanish giants, is looking to secure more first-team football.

Liverpool have held talks with Figo but are unwilling to pay a transfer fee for the 32-year-old.

Internazionale are not hopeful of concluding a deal for Luis Figo due to the financial package involved to lure the Portuguese star to Giuseppe Meazza.

Inter are keen to sign Real Madrid pair Figo and Walter Samuel, but while the duo are keen to join the club they are struggling to agree terms with the Liga giants.

Club president Massimo Moratti has revealed a transfer could be done this week, but Inter are not confident of sealing the deal.

"We could do something for them in the coming days," explained Moratti.

"There isn't financial optimism, but there is the sporting one because there is the positive desire from all parties to conclude a deal."

One of the stumbling blocks is Figo's wage demands, as he commands a whopping €6 million a season with Real, while the Spanish giants are believed to want around €16 million for Samuel.
