Ballack to the future

Inter have reportedly convinced Michael Ballack to leave Bayern Munich for the San Siro outfit in the summer of 2006.

The German international will be a free agent next July and he has already hinted that he is looking for a new club.

"I am very happy here but I think the time has arrived for me to try playing for a great European club," he recently stated. "It is a question of stimulus."

Stories in the peninsula on Monday morning claim that the Nerazzurri have already struck a deal with the central midfielder.

The former Bayer Leverkusen sensation, who has spent the last five years with Bayern, has been tempted by Inter’s three-year contract offer.

Ballack, who will be hoping to lead his country to World Cup glory next summer, has been linked with Inter in the past.

It is believed that Ballack has been targeted given that Juan Sebastian Veron has made no secret of his desire to return to Argentina in 12 months.

Nerazzurri fans will be hoping that Ballack can make as a big an impact as Lothar Matthaus. The legendary German helped the club win their last Scudetto in 1989.

Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Ballack is being courted by Internazionale.

The Germany international's future is uncertain as he only has 12 months remaining on his contract at the Allianz Arena.

Ballack has refused to sign an extension and has hinted at a desire to leave Die Bundesliga after next year's World Cup in his homeland.

Reports in Italy claim that Inter are hoping to sign Ballack on a free transfer next summer and have already settled on a general accord with the 28-year-old.

Bayern's top brass are determined to cajole Ballack into signing a new contract and club president, and former Inter star, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has added his voice to the debate.

"We hope to convince Ballack to sign the contract extension and stay with us," said Rummenigge.

"We know about his will to have new experiences. Me, too, at the age of 29 I chose a new experience in Italy.

"Bayern's plans are centred on Ballack and they are the same for the future, too. We will see."

Inter are ready to offer the former Bayer Leverkusen ace a three-year contract but could face competition from Manchester United.

The Red Devils have been strongly linked with the free-scoring Ballack with Sir Alex Ferguson keen to add an experienced midfielder to his squad.

Rumours suggest that United officials will meet their Bayern counterparts in Japan at the end of the month with both clubs playing pre-season friendlies in the capital Tokyo.
