MADRID, July 25 (Reuters) - Sevilla are close to accepting a €24 million ($16.65 million) offer from Arsenal for Brazilian forward Julio Baptista, according to their president Jose Maria del Nido.

'As yet nothing has been agreed between the two clubs,' Del Nido was quoted as saying in Spanish media on Monday. 'But I can reveal that Arsenal are now willing to offer something close to the amount that we could accept.
'They have now offered more than double the €12 million they began the bidding with and will exceed what they paid for (Jose Antonio) Reyes, but the agreement must suit all three parties.
'The best thing is not to talk too much about the matter and just wait and see what happens.'
Del Nido's headline figure of €24 million is likely to include bonus payments based on results, similar to those agreed when Reyes moved to Arsenal in January 2004.
Arsenal paid Sevilla an initial €15 million for the Spanish international with an additional 9.5 million conditional on appearances and performances.
Ten days ago Del Nido said he had turned down an offer of €20 million from Arsenal for Baptista who has scored 38 goals in the last two seasons and is under contract until 2008.
The Brazilian international also appeared to rule out a move when he returned to training last week saying he wanted to remain in Spain to acquire Spanish citizenship.
Local media have reported that Baptista wants to stay at Sevilla until the end of next season and then join Barcelona when he will no longer be classed as a non-European Union player.
