Saints agree fee for Fuller
Southampton boss Harry Redknapp hopes to link up with Ricardo Fuller again after agreeing a nominal fee with Portsmouth for the striker.
Fuller, 24, played under Redknapp at Fratton Park last season but struggled for fitness. If the Jamaica striker passes a medical he could sign later today.
Redknapp told official club website: 'We have got the go-ahead from Pompey and I hope he will come in today. I like him, he is a good player.'
Redknapp had wanted to bring Diomansy Kamara - another player he worked with at Pompey - to St Mary's, but the striker agreed a move to West Brom.
The Saints boss could now look for Fuller to lead the attack following the departure of Peter Crouch and Kevin Phillips, while he is also keen to bring Baggies defender Darren Purse to the club.
Redknapp added: 'Diomansy Kamara wanted to play in the Premier League. I don't know what wages West Brom are paying but we made him a very decent offer and bid £1.5million which shows the ambition.
'But he wanted to stay in the Premiership and that's what swung it. But we will keep looking.'
West Brom survived on a dramatic final day of last season's Barclays Premiership, with Southampton relegated to the Coca-Championship.
Redknapp is determined to get the club back into the top flight but admits he needs to bolster his squad.
He added: 'I still think I need four or five players to get us out of this division. And there are still one or two I would let go.
'I have only brought in two free transfers so far and we have lost a lot of good players. It is not as though I have cleared out rubbish players.
'At Portsmouth I cleared out a few who were not good players but since I have been here we have sold the likes of James Beattie, Kevin Phillips and Peter Crouch and we have lost Henri Camara.
'If I can get five in for nothing then great but if I need to spend then I will do. We have brought in over £9million this summer and saved on their wages so I am sure there is a bit in the budget.
'I have not spoken to the chairman about exact amounts but there is some money and I would still like to get Darren Purse.
'He was at the game last night but Cardiff have made him a very good offer and he has to think about what he wants to do.'
