Wenger: Squad feels Pat loss
While the French tactician is happy with the troops he has available, he also feels some of his stars are still coming to terms to life without their former captain.
Despite endless summers linking Vieira with a move away from Highbury the France international always remained, until this time around when he joined Juve.
Wenger has been working on getting his players physically and technically in shape and now wants to focus on preparing his charges mentally without the Senegal-born star.
"I'm very positive about the quality of the squad," Wenger said. "At the moment, many people are writing us off, but it's down to us.
"If the players believe in themselves as much as I believe in them they will go into the season thinking they can do it.
"We've all touched by the departure of Patrick Vieira, but slowly we're getting stronger and stronger on that side.
"I think Patrick leaving was a little bit more unexpected this year and at the start it was a bit of a shock for the players.
"At the moment, we're more focused on the physical and technical aspect, but the closer we get to the real competition the more we will have to work on the psychological side.
"I feel the final part of our pre-season preparations will be mainly focused on that. It takes a bit of time, but I'm very positive."
