Real MadridReal Madrid defender Walter Samuel is on the verge of sealing a move to Italian giants Internazionale.
It had initially been suggested that Real and Inter had come to a loan arrangement for the Argentine, however the two clubs have since agreed a €16 million fee.
The rugged defender will undergo a medical on Monday before signing a four-year contract with Roberto Mancini's side.
The 27-year-old has admitted his disappointment to be leaving the Bernabeu where he feels the Spaniards rarely saw the best of him.
"It was clear that Real didn't fancy me although I am aware that I didn't have the best of seasons," he said.
Reflecting on his one season with Real, Samuel felt that the lack of continuity at the club was largely to blame for his poor form.
He lamented: "At Real we had three different coaches and the team's performances were affected by these disruptions. I went to Real to win but we were unable to do that."
Samuel is now looking to draw a line under his unhappy time in Spain and is thankful for the opportunity that Inter have given him.
"I must thank Massimo Moratti," added the former Roma man. "I am lucky to have found a really big club who have confidence in me.
"I know my team-mates in defence and they are all good experienced players."
Samuel is also looking forward to the possibility of being joined at the San Siro by fellow Madridista, Luis Figo.
"I really hope we can get him. He has told me that he is very keen to join me at Inter," he confirmed. |
