Skysports.com understand Newcastle's move for Francesco Coco could be back on.
The move appeared to collapse earlier this week after the player returned to Italy.
The Internazionale defender had been lined up for a season-long loan deal after training with the club.
Coco is keen to earn a move away from Inter after growing increasingly frustrated at his lack of first team chances.
Newcastle claimed they were unable to agree a deal with Coco meaning that the move was dead.
However, the move appears to have been resurrected with reports suggesting Inter are willing to pay towards his wages.
The player's agent Claudio Vigorelli has hinted that the move could be on the agenda again.
"I think something could happen," Vigorelli told skysports.com.
"We will know more tomorrow (Saturday)."
Magpies boss Graeme Souness is keen to bring in a new left back as he is yet to be convinced by Celestine Babayaro and Steven Taylor has been forced to play out of position to fill the void in pre-season.
Meanwhile, Newcastle could be ready to offer Hugo Viana in part exchange for Sporting winger Rodolph Douala.
Sporting claim they have rejected bids from Newcastle and Middlesbrough for the Cameroon international.
Newcastle have turned their attentions to Douala after being frustrated in their attempts to land other transfer targets.
The Magpies are now hoping to tempt Sporting into selling Douala by offering Viana as part of the deal.
Viana enjoyed a fine season on loan at Sporting last term and he has previously admitted he would like to return to the Portuguese giants on a permanent basis.
The midfielder's future is up in the air after a proposed move to Celta Vigo fell through.
Middlesbrough are believed to be favourites for Douala's signature, but Newcastle are hoping to steal a march on their rivals by offering Viana in a deal to sign the winger.
