Sao Paulo : Man Utd seems can't get Cicinho this summer

Sao Paulo believe Manchester United do not have enough time to sign Brazil full-back Cicinho before the 31 August transfer deadline.

Director Marco Aurelio Cunha told Sao Paulo's website: "Negotiations with Manchester aren't as easy as they seem.

"The English club is demanding the player has a European passport and with my experience in football, that document won't be ready by 31 August."

Cicinho, 25, qualifies for an Italian passport through his grandfather.

That means he would not require a work permit and Sao Paulo have already agreed to sell the Brazil international if the £7m asking price is met.

United reportedly held talks with the defender earlier in the week and seemed to be in pole position to sign him despite rumoured interest from AC Milan and Juventus.

However, Cunha is confident that Cicinho will "return to defend the Sao Paulo colours".

Cicinho has been capped by Brazil six times and was impressive during the recent Confederations Cup.
