New Spurs bid
Tottenham have today offered Newcastle United £5million plus Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane in exchange for want-away midfielder Jermaine Jenas.
Newcastle chief Freddy Shepherd will meet his Spurs counterpart Daniel Levy today to try and hammer out a deal that would satisfy both clubs. Jenas has become unsettled in the north east and Robbie Keane will now be offered as bait as Spurs are unable to cough up £10million in hard cash.
Talk of Frederic Kanoute leaving London for Newcastle looks unlikely if you believe the whispers circulating today

Wenger rules out swoop for Jenas

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he is not interested in signing Newcastle midfielder Jermaine Jenas.

The 22-year-old, whose red card against Arsenal at Highbury was later reduced to a booking, has been linked with both Arsenal and Tottenham this summer.

"He is a good player, but at the moment I'm not interested. I just wanted to watch him play," said Wenger.

Spurs have been linked with a cash plus Fredi Kanoute bid for Jenas, who admits he is unhappy living in Newcastle.

Jenas was dismissed just after the half hour mark against Arsenal for a late challenge on Brazilian midfielder Gilberto Silva, the first sending off of his career.

But referee Steve Bennett reviewed video footage after the game and decided he had been wrong to show Jenas a red card.

The former Nottingham Forest midfielder had been due to miss three games through suspension, but he will now be available for Saturday's home game against West Ham.

Spurs boss Martin Jol could now move for the England international using Kanoute as bait, with Newcastle desperately short of attacking options.

Newcastle could be tempted by the bait of Robbie Keane if Tottenham propose a part-exchange deal for Jermaine Jenas.
The Magpies have so far ruled out selling their 22-year-old England squad midfielder, who on Monday saw his controversial red card at Arsenal reduced to a yellow.
Jenas has been the subject of speculation that Spurs and Arsenal both want to bring him to north London.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has ruled out making an approach, but Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd is expecting an approach from the White Hart Lane outfit, with suggestions that 5million plus Republic of Ireland striker Keane could be tabled.
Toon's search for an experienced strike partner for Alan Shearer has so far produced no tangible results for boss Graeme Souness.
With Craig Bellamy and Patrick Kluivert having departed this summer, the Tynesiders have targeted Nicolas Anelka, Luis Boa Morte and Michael Owen, but they have yet to strengthen in attack.
Keane, 25, has also been touted as a potential recruit and he could be dispensable, with Jermain Defoe, Mido and Fredi Kanoute also competing for places in Martin Jol's forward line.
