Beattie faces weeks on sidelines
Everton's James Beattie will be out of action for a few weeks after injuring his foot in the opening-day Premiership defeat by Manchester United.
A scan revealed that the 27-year-old striker's foot is not broken, as was first feared, but serious bruising will prevent him playing for some time.
Everton physio Mick Rathbone told the club's website: "James has badly sprained his toe joint.
"We anticipate it could be some weeks before he is fit to play again."
Beattie joins a growing injury list at Goodison Park, with Gary Naysmith and Lee Carsley long-term absentees.
