Sochaux have announced the signing of French Under-21 international Mourad Meghni on a year’s loan from Serie B side Bologna.
The 21-year-old playmaker – tipped as a future successor to Zinedine Zidane – has been looking for a return to France since The Stadio Dall’Ara outfit were relegated following a play-off defeat to Parma.
“We want to turn the Little Zidane into the Big Meghni,” announced Sochaux President Jean-Claude Plessis on Wednesday.
A product of the French Football Academy at Clairefontaine, Meghni joined Bologna in 2000. He spent his first two seasons in Italy in the reserves, but was still crowned World Champion in 2001 with the France Under-17 squad.
Despite a serious knee injury which hampered his progress, Meghni played 37 games in Serie A, scoring five goals. Sochaux have the option to make the deal permanent in 12 months time.
In other transfer news, newly promoted Ascoli have officially signed defender Maurizio Domizzi on a one-year loan. The Sampdoria man spent last season at Brescia. |
